Resolution to Fight Immigration Restrictions and Unite All Workers

Whereas: Borders are tools of exploitation used by capitalists to divide and oppress workers by nationality, race, and citizenship, enabling corporations and governments to suppress wages and working conditions;

Whereas: Immigrants face severe exploitation, discrimination, and violence as a direct result of restrictive border and immigration policies, causing immense suffering and loss of life;

Whereas: Lifting immigration restrictions is consistent with socialist values of solidarity, internationalism, and the inherent dignity and equality of all people, irrespective of nationality;

Whereas: The labor movement is strongest when all workers, regardless of immigration status, unite against common capitalist exploitation and oppression;

Whereas: Fighting immigration restrictions places Rhode Island DSA clearly on the side of immigrant communities, strengthens solidarity, and positions the chapter as a vocal advocate for human rights and economic justice;

Be it resolved: Rhode Island DSA officially advocates for the complete abolition of ICE and through direct action, participates in protecting our community from their attacks;

Be it further resolved: Rhode Island DSA supports freedom of movement for workers, advocating for the abolition of restrictive immigration controls and policies in the United States;

Be it further resolved: Rhode Island DSA advocates strong wage protections and equal workplace rights for immigrant and non-immigrant workers – requiring all employers to hire immigrants at prevailing wages, and eliminating the exploitative “guest worker” system;

Be it further resolved: Rhode Island DSA fights against the capitalist policies that force workers to migrate, including the IMF’s exploitation of independent nations and the U.S. empire’s attacks on the sovereignty of other nations;

Be it further resolved: Rhode Island DSA will publicly advocate for solidarity with immigrants, through political education and by supporting relevant community and/or legislative initiatives aimed at dismantling restrictive immigration policies. Rhode Island DSA’s public messages and political education will communicate that the international capitalist system is the primary cause of the displacement and suffering of workers (many of whom migrate out of desperation), and that immigrant and U.S.-born workers must unite to fight the bosses who exploit them both. Rhode Island DSA will also combat the pernicious and false messages that link immigrants and crime.
